Life at Dataw Island is as social as you want it to be. From member-led clubs and volunteer opportunities to sporting events, educational programs, and casual gatherings, there are countless ways to connect with neighbors who quickly become friends. Whether you’re looking to pursue a favorite hobby, discover a new passion, or simply enjoy good company, you’ll find a welcoming community ready to share the experience.
Dataw is not age-restricted, and naturally attracts those who value an active lifestyle, meaningful connections, and the camaraderie that comes from belonging to a vibrant private club community.
Making new friends comes naturally at Dataw. One of our most popular traditions is Island Friends, where small groups of 12 to 15 members are randomly matched each year to enjoy a variety of gatherings. From brunches and happy hours to oyster roasts and themed dinners, each member has the opportunity to host an event, creating new friendships and lasting memories.
Our golf, tennis, pickleball, croquet, bocce, kayaking, and fitness professionals also make it easy to get involved. Whether you’re an experienced player or trying something new for the first time, they’ll help you find programs, events, and groups that match your interests, skill level, and pace.
The spirit of Dataw extends well beyond our gates. Members generously share their time, talents, and leadership throughout the Beaufort area, supporting nearly 100 organizations dedicated to education, healthcare, veterans, conservation, animal welfare, history, the arts, local government, and helping neighbors in need.
Whether you’re passionate about mentoring children, preserving the Lowcountry’s natural beauty, supporting local nonprofits, or giving back in another meaningful way, you’ll find countless opportunities to make a difference alongside fellow members.
New and seasoned members alike often take part in “Island Friends”, 12-15 person social groups who are partnered by random selection to meet up throughout the year. Each participant has the opportunity to host an event of their choosing, whether a brunch, happy hour, or oyster roast, at their own home or in one of our many community settings, giving all members the opportunity to forge relationships with new folks each year.
Our sports Pros also each offer programming to help new members acclimate to our programs and partner up with appropriate groups. Whether you are an avid sportsman or consider liberal libations an integral part of play, our Pros will help you meet like-minded members of similar skills and interests.
Recently, a group of Dataw Island volunteers surveyed others regarding where are how often they volunteer. Nearly 100 organizations for which Dataw members volunteer were identified, primarily in education, healthcare, veterans organizations, and helping the disadvantaged, as well as in helping the environment and in local government, with animals, and history and culture. If you feel a calling, there is likely a cause!
Whatever your passion, there’s a good chance you’ll find others who share it. Dataw members have created an impressive collection of clubs and organizations celebrating everything from art, books, photography, gardening, and history to bridge, wine appreciation, boating, conservation, and more.
Don’t see a club that matches your interests? Start one. Dataw’s member communication network makes it easy to connect with like-minded neighbors and build a new community around the activities you enjoy most.
Dataw Island members have created a multitude of “clubs within the club” to cover just about every interest imaginable…and, if you identify one that is not yet formed, you can use our internal member-to-member communications to gather others and start your own!
