Dataw Veterans Week 2025
Last week, Dataw proudly celebrated a full slate of patriotic festivities for our 2025 Dataw Veterans Week. Filled with spirit, pride, gratitude, and plenty of red, white, and blue, the community came together in a bigger and more meaningful way than ever. From heartfelt ceremonies to spirited gatherings, it was a week that truly honored our veterans and showcased the strength, unity, and patriotism that define Dataw!
Kicking Off The Week
We kicked off the week on Friday, November 7 with our Tennis and Pickleball Stars & Stripes Tournaments. Decked out in festive red, white, and blue, our players brought incredible energy to the courts. Both tennis and pickleball participants showed up in full spirit, making for a fun and lively afternoon that set the tone for the celebrations to come.
Saturday, November 8, continued the momentum with a lively lineup of festive activities. Members took part in DIGA’s Hole-In-One for the Heroes, the DIBC Bocce Bakery, the DIWGA Sink ’Em for the Vets Putting Contest, and CCDI’s Wickets for the Warriors. Each event brought its own spirited flair, adding spirit and enthusiasm to the early days of Veterans Week.
Midweek Events
Sunday, November 9, was full of activities that showcased the community’s enthusiasm and support. The day began with our American Flag Placement in the morning, followed by the Patriot Par-Tee and the opening of our Silent Auction, and wrapped up with the Tip It Up for the Troops event at The Pub. From raffles and auctions to community spirit and generosity, the day was filled with heartfelt participation and support for our veterans.
Monday, November 10, featured two exciting events: the Birdies For The Brave Marathon and the Adaptive Golf Scramble. During the marathon, four groups of two Dataw employees played a total of 288 holes to raise money for veterans. Marketing & Communications’ own Riley Kase even scored a hole-in-one on Morgan River Hole 16! Meanwhile, the Adaptive Golf Scramble took place on the front nine of the Cotton Dike Course, where many community members came out to cheer on the participants and show their support.
Veterans Day
Tuesday, November 11, was Veterans Day, and the chilly weather had nothing on Dataw’s spirit. Many members and guests came out to honor and support our veterans throughout the day. The morning began with the Veterans March and Flag Raising Ceremony, accompanied by patriotic songs performed by the Dataw Singers. This was followed by the Veterans Classic Tournament, where veterans joined members as guests to play in support of Tee It Up for the Troops. A hamburger cookout concluded the day, where tournament winners were recognized with a Dataw Veterans Week Coin Award, and Sgt. Phil Marshall was honored with a Quilt of Honor.
Closing Out The Week
Wednesday, November 12, welcomed the Lowcountry Wind Symphony to the Carolina Ballroom for a special performance. This all-volunteer wind band brought beautiful music to the celebration. Thursday, November 13, wrapped up Veterans Week with our annual Veterans Breakfast, featuring military songs performed by the Dataw Singers, and a tribute at the Fallen Soldier Table. The day also included the presentation of a Quilt of Honor to Maj. Gen. Scott A. Hammond, marking a meaningful close to a week full of remembrance and celebration.
Thank You
We extend our heartfelt thank you to our Veterans Week Event Chairs, Marty Groover and Gary Mignogna, for their leadership and dedication in making this week possible. We also want to recognize the Veterans Week Committee of the Groovers, Mignognas, Terrys and Marshalls for their dedication to making the week’s events a success. We are also proud to share that, thanks to the generosity of our community, we raised around $80,000 in support of our veterans. Additionally, we thank all the volunteers, staff, members, and community supporters who contributed their time, energy, and generosity. Your participation, donations, and support helped make Dataw’s 2025 Veterans Week a meaningful and memorable celebration!
