Dataw Ladies Golf Team Finishes Undefeated Season with Division 2 Championship
Earlier this March, our Dataw Ladies Golf Team took to the greens for the final Lowcountry Ladies Team Match Play event of the season, competing against some of the area’s best clubs, including Berkeley Hall, Long Cove, Country Club of Hilton Head, and Spring Island. Over the course of six exciting matches, the team battled hard, racking up points in each event as they aimed for the top of Division 2. From start to finish, the matches were filled with skill, teamwork, and plenty of friendly competition. Members of the Dataw Team included Katy Altemus, Betty Arnold, Eva Barnulf, Kathy Bradbury, Anne Miglarese, Stacie Stansell, Diann Trautwein and Sue Zankowski who participated in one or more of the six matches won this past season.
The season ended on a high note with a thrilling 33–21 victory over a very competitive Long Cove 1 team. Every pairing shone: Diann Trautwein and Katy Altemus scored 10 of 18 points, Kathy Bradbury and Eva Barnulf added 11 of 18 points, and Anne Miglarese and Stacie Stansell led the charge with an impressive 12 of 18 points. With this final win, the team completed a perfect six-match season and claimed the Division 2 first place trophy! It was an unforgettable day on the course and a proud moment for the entire team.
Last year, our Dataw ladies competed in Division 3 and their outstanding performance earned them entry to Division 2. With this season’s win, Dataw will be honored to be included in Division 1 next season.
A huge thank you to the entire team, along with all alternates, supporters, and volunteers whose encouragement and commitment made this achievement possible and a very special thank you to DIWGA for their ongoing support of the Dataw Island Team.
These ladies deserve much praise and recognition as they worked tirelessly on their games, participating in practice matches every week since last October to prepare for this zero-handicap match play format.
