This past weekend, Dataw Island once again came together to celebrate our beloved Luminary Weekend, a tradition that began more than 35 years ago by the Dataw Garden Club. From glowing streets filled with luminaries to beautifully illuminated landmarks, caroling, shared food and beverages, and the ever-popular Yacht Club boat parade, the weekend captured the spirit and holiday joy that defines this event. With the continued partnership of the Garden Club, Dataw Historic Foundation, and Dataw Island Yacht Club, Luminary Night remains a cherished Dataw tradition that brings our community together each holiday season.
DIYC Boat Parade
Saturday evening kicked off with the fifth annual Dataw Island Yacht Club Boat Parade. Festively decorated boats lit up the water with holiday lights and décor as members gathered to tailgate and enjoy the show. The tailgate began on Morgan River Hole #14, where residents came together for food, drinks, and good company before the parade set off at 6 p.m., creating a joyful and festive start to the weekend!
Luminary Night
After the Boat Parade on Saturday, and the Luminary Cocktail Party on Sunday, we wrapped up the weekend on Monday with our annual Luminary Night as luminary bags were lit around dusk across the island, creating a festive ambiance. The glowing streets set the scene for the Dataw Choir, who performed holiday carols among the lights, first at the Butterfly Garden and later at the Ruins. Second Helpings food donations were also collected at the Community Center throughout the weekend, adding a meaningful way for residents to give back while celebrating the season.
