Golf Maintenance Staff Promoted
Congratulating Chris Newnham and Kevyn Towery on their hard-earned promotions in the Golf Maintenance Department

Congratulations, Chris & Kevyn!

Congratulations to Chris Newnham and Kevyn Towery on their promotions within the Golf Maintenance department! Chris, formerly the Superintendent of the Morgan River course, has moved to the Cotton Dike course, and his former First Assistant, Kevyn Towery, is now the Superintendent of Morgan River.

“These guys are both really talented, and they deserve to be promoted,” says Director of Golf Course Maintenance Brian Hollingsworth. “Chris and Kevyn have both grown a lot in their current positions and I am confident they will do well in their new appointments.”

Having worked together on Morgan River, the two have a bond and an understanding that they feel will help them when working on different courses.

“Even with two courses, we really are one big team,” says Chris. “And it filters down from the top – Brian stresses that all employees are a team, and Kevyn and I are excited to help further unite the courses and teams.”

Kevyn adds, “The rapport that Chris and I have built has always been good, and we plan to continue to share and take full advantage of working as one team.”

Chris has been with Dataw Island for 3 ½ years. He is originally from Columbia SC but has been in the Lowcountry for 25 years. His prior experience includes working as the Superintendent of Secession and in landscaping. Chris says he loves the beauty of the marsh and being close to the ocean; in his spare time he enjoys boating, fishing, golf and bicycling – especially when he gets to enjoy these activities with his almost-17-year-old son.

Kevyn came to Dataw Island in 2018 as an intern before being hired as the Assistant. He had five years of working in golf in North Carolina before transitioning to the Lowcountry, where he plans to stay and grow for the next five to 10 years. Outside of work, Kevyn says he is outdoorsy, loves sports, and enjoys mentoring youth (particularly middle-school aged kids) through coaching basketball. He looks forward to getting more involved in the Beaufort community.

When you see Chris and Kevyn, be sure to give them a big wave and say "Congratulations!"
