Dataw Island Quilters
Mission
The Dataw Island Quilters (DIQ) are a group of quilters with a wide
range of experience who gather to share ideas, learn new techniques, contribute
to our community outreach project, and share friendship. Our general meeting is
the 2nd Wednesday of each month, 10:00 AM at the Community Center. Generally,
we hold a business meeting followed by a program and then lunch at the
DIC. On each 4th Wednesday, we meet at the Community Center for informal
quilting time and sharing of quilting techniques, and workshops for DIQ group
projects (10:00 AM to 4:00 PM). We do not meet in July and August. While
we don’t meet formally in these two months, some of us will get together to
work on our projects or take a trip to a quilt shop.
Membership
Membership is open to all members of the DIC. Guests are welcome to visit.
Membership is currently (Sept. 2020) 28 members. The annual cost of membership
is $20.

Special Events
DI Quilters make a
Quilt of Valor for a wounded warrior each year. The quilt is presented at the veteran's
golf tournament held on Dataw Island each November.
We also hold a
Christmas Quilt Show at the Community Center and have had outdoor Quilt Shows on
Dataw Island.
Cozy Quilts for Children
Our current community project is making nap quilts for the children at
St. Helena Early Learning Center. Each child has their own quilt for nap time.
When a child leaves the program, he/she takes their quilt with them.
Dataw 25th Anniversary Quilt
DIQ members designed, made, and donated the Dataw Island 25th
anniversary quilt. This quilt was raffled off with the proceeds going to the
DIC to help defray the cost of the 25th Dataw anniversary celebration. The
winner of this quilt donated it to the DIC and it now hangs in the Dataw Island
History and Learning Center.
