Update: This is the little kitten that fell out from under a moving car on 21 and a landscape worker on his way to Dataw was right behind. He jumped out of his car and stopped traffic while he rescued the tiniest kitten you ever saw.

With DIFF's help, Lucky Boy quickly made his way to Peggy's home -- ahem, as a temporary foster! Yeah, that lasted about five minutes. He is the pampered darling, and as you can see, he is no longer the least bit tiny.

Peggy passed this picture on so we can all see how a Texas cat spends his leisure time.

 ABOUT DIFF

DIFF was organized at the request of the Dataw Island Owner's Association (DIOA) and Dataw management. DIFF operates autonomously but works closely with DIOA, Management, Security. and Marina.

DIFF is incorporated in SC as a non profit organization and is recognized by the IRS as a 501c3 public charity.

DIFF’S Trap-Neuter-Release and feeding programs are modeled after those run nationally by Alley Cat Allies and locally by Colleton Plantation, Daufuskie Island, Palmetto Animal League and Beaufort Humane Association. Hilton Head Humane Association and Port Royal Veterinary Hospital provide veterinary care and we have a consultant veterinarian on Dataw.

40 Dataw residents are volunteers and all Dataw residents are welcome to participate (call Carol Garrison 838-2716; she will connect you with a Board member).

Communication among volunteers and the island as a whole is by means of the DatawNet. Periodically feral cat educational materials, a volunteer created newsletter and other of the moment alerts are emailed. Outreach has been updated and our "Cat Liaison" maintains contact with both North and South of the Broad Cat Associations etc.

DIFF is supported by the generosity of Dataw Island residents through independent donations and attendance at fundraising events: Cats’ Meow cocktail party, Sweetgrass bartending night when tips were donated and Cat Tales events. Cat Tales is a two-part book of illustrations and Dataw feral cat stories.
