TEAM PLAY

18 Hole Ladies team play events:
In addition to our Thursday ladies event, DIWGA members have additional events available to them. These events involve competition with other clubs, and provide the chance to play at other locations. The team events are also governed by handicaps. They are:

THE COASTAL CAROLINA LADIES LEAGUE is a non-profit organization established to give women golfers with a USGA handicap index of 20.1 to 40.0 an opportunity to experience competitive play at various local golf courses, to become familiar with the Rules of Golf, to meet new people, develop friendships, camaraderie and to have fun. Golfers who have an index at the higher end of the range can participate, but will be required to play to a maximum course handicap of 36.

The following clubs are participating:

Callawassie Island
Sun City
Pinecrest
Country Club of Hilton Head
Moss Creek
Dataw Island
Oldfield
Fripp Island
Rose Hill
Island West
Palmetto Hall Plantation
Port Royal
The Golf Club at Indigo Run

THE FORSYTHE CUP: Lt. Col. And Mrs. George Forsythe, who retired to Beaufort, began the Forsythe Cup. They wanted a tournament that would bring people from different clubs together more for friendship than for competition. It is held in April or May and the participating clubs are: Fripp Island, Brays Island, Sun City, The Sanctuary and Dataw Island. Six people from each club participate making three, two women teams. The first team plays scratch, and the remaining two teams play with handicaps.

LOWCOUNTRY TEAM PLAY: The Lowcountry Team Play event has four divisions with seven teams in each. Dataw has one team in Division 2. The participating clubs are in Bluffton, Dataw and Hilton Head. Players are chosen by their December 1st handicap. There are six players from each club per match, with the game being better ball of partners, match play with no handicaps. Six matches are held in February and March.

WOMEN’S SOUTH CAROLINA GOLF ASSOCIATION (WSCGA): Through its affiliation with the Women’s South Carolina Golf Association, all DIWGA members are welcome to play but as with our tournaments and Ladies Day Play, your handicap will be maxed at an index of 40.4. These tournaments are one day tournaments held throughout the state. Members are notified of these upcoming tournaments on a monthly basis by e-mail and information posted in the ladies’ locker room. WSCGA also organizes six major state championships throughout the year.

RINGERS: Ringers is a way to better your score on each hole of the Morgan River and Cotton Dike golf courses over the course of the year. Both the 9 and 18 hole ringer’s program begin the first Thursday of the year and end approximately the last Thursday in November. Ringer awards are given in December. Every time you play Thursday golf, pick up a ringer card for the appropriate course, and fill in each hole.
When you join Ringers, completely fill in a card for each course as a starting point. Each hole space on the card must have the gross and net score for that hole. It is the net score that you need to improve. You do need to have the card attested that day by someone in your golf group. The annual cost is $5.00 and will automatically be billed to your account.

2-CLUB: This is a golf group where anyone can become a member. The only requirement for membership is that you score a gross "2" while playing with a 2-Club member or members. This group is not unique to Dataw - there are members at clubs across the country.

Rules:
1. A member must score a gross 2 (usually a birdie on a par 3) and ask is anyone is a member of the 2-Club. Second, if you scored a two, you pay each 2-Club member $1 and you are then a member for life.
2. Once you are a 2-Club member, the next time you score a "2", you must ask if anyone in your two, three or foursome is a 2-Club member. If there are any, each owes you $1. Thereafter, if you are playing with someone who scores a "2", you either receive a dollar from them, if they wish to join, or you pay them $1 if they are already a member.

Once you are a member of the 2-Club, we recommend that you purchase a 2-Club pin for display on your bag. If you would like a pin please contact the DIWGA President. If you are a current 2-Club member and have lost your pin, you may simply purchase another pin and should contact the DIWGA President.
