We are pleased to announce that Holly Mason has been promoted to the role of Membership Director, effective July first.
Since June of 2017 Holly has served as our Marketing & Communications Coordinator, where she has proven to be a valuable member of the Dataw Island team. “Holly is amazing with members,” says Director of Marketing & Communications Laura McCarthy. “I really appreciate her upbeat disposition and commitment to heartfelt service.”
Holly says that she loves the “people” aspect of working in a Club environment and looks forward to increased engagement with members. “I am really looking forward to being more in front of the membership. I have worked behind the scenes so-to-speak these last five years and am ready to get out and get involved.”
She adds, “I absolutely love working with the members. I am a people person and when I get to engage with the members, that is when I am the happiest. Anytime a member comes to me with an issue with things like their Club email on their phone, help logging into the member website, etc., and I am able to help them through the issue, it’s an amazing feeling. I hope I can help enhance the membership program similarly.”
Those who have had the opportunity to work with Holly agree that she is supremely service-oriented and very good with members. General Manager Ted Bartlett says, “Holly’s personality is a fantastic fit for the membership position. She has a great grasp on Dataw, has forged many personal connections, and has built considerable relationships with members and staff. Further, she has an understanding of the complexities of our membership program, and the ambition to master it.”
Bartlett and McCarthy both note that Holly has shown a continued enthusiasm and interest in growing. “Holly came to us five years ago with a little experience and an enormous potential,” said McCarthy. “Her desire to learn and to improve is only outweighed by her commitment to serving members. She has the rare trait of being fantastic with people and excellent at attention to detail.”
Since the formalization of the succession planning program a couple years ago, Holly has been training with retiring Membership Director Ann Brown to be ready for this transition.
“I have learned so much working with Laura these past five years and with Ann during my training program,” Holly says. Working in a club atmosphere is very different than any other job I’ve had; I have learned how to handle a lot of different situations and juggle different tasks at the same time. I feel like learning those skills have prepared me for the new position.”
In her new role as Membership Director, we are confident that members will continue to appreciate her enthusiasm and positivity.
“Ann is leaving some pretty big shoes to fill (and stylish ones at that)!” Holly says. “Not only does this position come with a lot of responsibilities, I am following someone that has been here for 37 years. It will be tough, but I look forward to the challenge.
Bartlett feels confident that the challenge is one that Holly is up for. “She has proven to be an excellent team member. I truly couldn’t ask for a better candidate to fill this role.”
Holly and her husband, Justin, live on Lady’s Island with their 11-year-old son, Carter. They enjoy golfing, fishing, kayaking and spending time with friends.
