Bringing Cheer to Infusion Patients
A very special group of people were treated with Easter baskets this year, created with donations and assembled with love by volunteers from Dataw Island. The group, coordinated by member Maureen Cooley, delivered 55 baskets to the Infusion Center at Beaufort Memorial Hospital and another ten were taken to a local women’s shelter. St. Patrick's Day Celebration at Dataw Island
Dataw Island members celebrated St. Patty's day the right way with games, traditional Irish music, hors d'oeuvres, and Irish-themed drinks organized and set up by two of our own externs - Morgan Ackerman and Leah Fuda. Members arrived in all shades of green and tested their knowledge with a quick round of St. Patrick's Day Trivia. Mr. Joe Roney came out on top with twelve out of fifteen correct answers! As the event went on, members were encouraged to guess how many Lucky Charm marshmallows were packed into a jar to win a prize. Mr. David Newcome came surprisingly close to the correct answer and was our lucky winner! It was an all around great day to catch up with friends and celebrate the luck of the Irish! Thank you to all who joined us.

The Government and Community Relations Committee Speakers' Forum
The Dataw Speakers Forums are sponsored by the DIOA Government & Community Relations Committee.  One aspect of the committee’s mission is to build relationships with government leaders, community organizations and elected officials. Inviting them to a Speaker’s Forum, either live or on Zoom, enables our residents to get to know them and ask questions. It also helps our leaders get to know Dataw and our concerns. We hope this library will enable you to catch up on any sessions you may have missed.  Don’t hesitate to contact the committee chairman if you have any suggestions for future topics.

Dataw Island Conservancy Christmas Bird Count
There are a number of native bird species to be found year-round on Dataw Island, and like many Dataw Island residents we also see species migrate here from around the country. Some common, and some rare, the migration patterns of these birds is studied by the National Audubon Society. The purpose is to provide population data for use in science, especially conservation biology, though many people participate for recreation.
