Dataw Island Club Celebrates with a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

Dataw Island members held a Grand Re-Opening Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for their golf courses, Tom Fazio's Cotton Dike and Arthur Hills' Morgan River, in celebration of the Club's completion of a million-plus-dollar cart path renovation. Joining members in celebration were Beaufort County Councilman Paul Sommerville, Vice Chairman; several representatives from the Beaufort Chamber of Commerce; project managers Jose Ivan Lopez and C.T. Shaw; and, key project coordinators for Dataw Island Club.

The ceremony, emceed by Dataw's Director of Marketing & Communications Laura McCarthy, opened with remarks from Blakely Williams, President of the Beaufort Chamber of Commerce, who congratulated Dataw on the accomplishment and expressed their thanks for our contributions to the Beaufort community and continuing to invest in and improve upon our resources and amenities. Williams then introduced Sommerville for brief remarks, who was followed by DIC President Keith Aspray and DIC VP Ted Barber. Aspray and Barber also thanked all Dataw members, first for their early on for the support by voting in the affirmative for the project, all the way through to execution and completion.

In return, Shaw also expressed that Landscapes Unlimited enjoyed working here on Dataw as much as we enjoyed having them, saying that out of all of the many clubs they have worked with, Dataw is the first to be so gracious and to recognize them in this manner.

The Cart Path Company, Landscapes Unlimited, and Southern Tree worked closely with Dataw staff throughout the five-month project, with each hole requiring about 3-5 days to remove the old cart paths, treat the earth, and install new cart paths, and an additional two to three days per hole of drainage work and sod. To accommodate golfers, Dataw worked closely with the contractors to close blocks of holes on a rolling basis, so that members and guests could continue to enjoy playing throughout the project.

Dataw Island is a community of 870 homes and welcomes off-island residents to join as Country Club members. Membership includes dining privileges, indoor and outdoor pool access, the Community Center (fitness room, yoga studio, spa services, physical therapy services, and art studio), and bocce courts, as well as access to the island’s numerous social activities, community docks, kayak launch and more. Sports options are also available.
