Dataw Splash! Final Results The USTA-sanctioned Dataw Splash was an exciting weekend of fierce competition

CONGRATULATIONS SPLASH WINNERS!!!

The USTA-sanctioned Dataw Splash! tennis tournament has drawn to a close after an exciting three days of competition. The 100 registrants included Datawites as well as players from the region and as far as North Carolina and Texas.

In support of Soar/Special Recreation since 2015, Dataw Island turned the Dataw Splash, into a fundraiser and each year is highlighted by some of the Soar kids handing out frozen treats on Saturday afternoon to show their support and say "thank you" in return.

“We love hosting this tournament,” Florence said. “The competition is a lot of fun for players and spectators, and to know that it supports a great cause makes all the effort worthwhile.” Florence went on to say that Dataw Island is grateful to all the volunteers, community support and sponsors, without whom the event would not be possible.

The 2018 Dataw Splash! was presented by South State Bank and the Dataw Island Club. Platinum sponsors are Foolish Frog, Grayco, and ERA Evergreen. Gold Sponsors are BB&T Carswell, Piace Pizza, Southern Tree Services, Spectrum Graphic Arts Center, and US Foods. Silver Sponsors are Carolina Sportscare, FarmCity Flowers, Gateway Mortgage, Gilbert Law, Red Cap, Sweetgrass Restaurant and Bar, Lowcountry Real Estate and Verity Investment Partners. Bronze sponsors are Dataw Island Tennis Association, Wilson, and Gamma.

“This is a fantastic event that really helps bring together players from all across the area for some competitive fun,” said Michael Gonzalez, owner/broker for ERA Evergreen, one of our sponsors. “But, mostly, we like to lend our support through sponsorship because the event’s beneficiary, SOAR Special Recreation, and Special Olympics, and the impact they have on local special athletes.”

In addition to supporting a great cause, spectators will attest to the great competition viewers were treated to this year. One of the most exciting Sunday afternoon matches was the Open Doubles, which is traditionally a highly-competitive division. Members and guests looked on as Datawites Jerry DeVisser and Joe Costigan won the Open Doubles in a head-to-head match against Tennis Instructor Greg Crosby and Todd Stone in a third set tie breaker. Congrats to Mr. DeVisser, Mr. Costigan, and the rest of these amazing Dataw winners!
