Dataw Island, S.C. – The 5th TaylorMade-adidas Intercollegiate Tournament concluded this afternoon with a clean sweep by the men’s team from Indian Hills Community College and a nail-biter finish for the top two women, Erin Smiddy and Yedin Lui.

Smiddy, of Ohio Dominican University, and Lui, of Carnegie Mellon University, entered day two with an 81 and 82 respectively, and the two proceeded to battle it out up until the end. Smiddy went birdie, par, birdie on holes 13, 14, and 15, then lost her stronghold on the lead shooting two back-to-back double-bogeys on 16 and 17, allowing Lui – who played a solid and steady round - to briefly take the lead. The excitement continued on the final hole – a long par 4, shooting into the wind -- where Lui bogeyed and Smiddy birdied, securing the women’s individual score win.

Carnegie Mellon won the Women’s team division with a final score of 675, and Ohio Dominican was not far behind, tallying a total of 681.

While the men’s division winner, Indian Hills, ran away with a sure victory shooting 890 on their three-round total, second place was a tight race between Carnegie Mellon and Hampden-Sydney, who finished tied at 932 with Carnegie Mellon squeaking ahead into second place and Mount St. Joseph trailing by only 2, finishing the tournament in fourth with a 934.

The men’s individual score was also a tough-fought battle dominated by Indian Hills players. Ricky Sanders took first with a score of 216, followed by Jakob Bares with 219 and Julien Sale with 222. Sanders Ricky Sanders shot an impressive 4-under par (68) in a downpour during round two of play Monday afternoon to enter the final round this morning with a comfortable lead.

Ohio Wesleyan hosted the TaylorMade-adidas Intercollegiate Tournament at Dataw Island for what is the season-opener for many of the participating schools. Seven teams of five players competed in the Women’s Division, including Carnegie Mellon, Ohio Dominican, Hardin-Simmons, Ohio Wesleyan, Marymount, Sandhills Community College, and Shenandoah University. Thirteen teams competed in the men’s division: Emory & Henry, Mount St. Mary, Milliken, Carnegie Mellon, Averett, Hampden-Sydney, Shenandoah, Indian Hills, Kenyon, Mount St. Joseph, Ohio Dominican, Ohio Wesleyan, and Sandhills.

Dataw members also played host this week, housing the student athletes at their homes and braving the unseasonably-cold weather to cheer on “their” students in what many of them consider their favorite event of the year.
