South Carolina Golf Association Junior Championship
Dataw Island Club is pleased to welcome the SCGA!

Dataw Island Welcomes the South Carolina Golf Association 60th Junior Championship

Designed by Tom Fazio, gaining inspiration by the series of dikes that were created to develop more planting ground for 18th century plantation cotton fields, sits an 18 hole golf course tucked between emerald fields and fairways. Dataw Island Club's Cotton Dike course welcomes competitors of the 60th SCGA Junior Championship presented by the Heritage Classic Foundation this week for their Championship. Rated as one of the lowcountry's finest courses, 152 players from throughout the state have come to Beaufort to experience and test their skills on the intricate scenic design.

A new champion will arise this year, as back-to-back champion Trent Phillips will forego competing in his final Junior Championship. One player to put on the watch list will be Greenville's Levi Moody. Moody, currently ranked 4th in the SCJGA Heritage Classic Foundation Rankings, was the 36-hole leader at the Junior Championship last year hosted at Columbia Country Club. Some errant shots and a couple missed putts let the title slip through his hands. Heading off to Wofford College in the fall, Moody will look to finish his junior career in victorious fashion.

Known to throw a couple of low rounds together, Holden Grigg of Myrtle Beach will be one to follow. Grigg, the 2017 CPGA Junior Champion, has accumulated five Top 10 finishes in 2018 and summer golf is just beginning. Grigg will also look to add to his junior profile of qualifying the for the Georgia- South Carolina Team Matches for the 2nd year in a row by finishing in the top eight in the overall championship.

Hoping to use his local knowledge as an advantage to place himself in contention is Hilton Head's Daniel Azallion. Racking up eight Top 10 finishes in 2018 thus far, the 2019 graduate will look to kick-off his summer season in the winner's circle, keeping very consistent with a win each season. Currently holding a 74.5 tournament scoring average, Azallion will look to fire an low round early to be a final round contender.

Coming off a recent top finish at the Scott Robertson Boys Junior is 2020 graduate, Manning Sloop. Sloop will travel down from Rock Hill in hopes to return home with some additional hardware in the car. With a recent top 20 finish at the CGA Creed Boys' Invitational, Sloop will look to gain momentum of recent event finishes and use that confidence going into the championship.

The 60th SCGA Junior Championship presented by the Heritage Classic Foundation will begin June 11th with a cut after the 2nd round of competition and then crowning a champion on June 13th. Please follow the SCGA on all social media outlets for up-to-date and live coverage of the event.
