Dataw hosts second annual “First Responders Appreciation” Cook-out and golf outing

Beaufort, SC -- Multiple fire trucks, ambulances and sheriff vehicles visited Dataw Island today, but there was no emergency situation; this trip was for a complimentary luncheon and a golf outing in appreciation for their work for our community. In its’ second year, Dataw hosted over 85 guests at their First Responder Appreciation Cookout & Golf outing.

The event has grown in popularity, and it is easy to see why.

First responders and dispatchers from the Beaufort County Sherriff’s Office, Lady’s Island – St. Helena Fire District, and Beaufort County EMS were welcomed by Dataw staff and board members in the scenic Carolina Ballroom to indulge in a cookout style buffet followed by a round of golf if they desired.

“We appreciate Dataw taking the time to invite members of the sheriff’s office and public safety over; it really makes us feel valued by the community,” said Beth Groover, who was a dispatcher for over 20 years and now aides the sheriff’s office as an assistant terminal agency coordinator. Groover has attended Dataw’s appreciation cookout both years. “Even though not everyone is able to make it, we really thank you for thinking of us.”

Many of the EMS that were on shift today could not stay long but they were able to grab lunch and also take burgers to go for their fellow teammates that could not be in attendance. About 25 attendees were able to stay for the afternoon and play golf on the Cotton Dike course. Even though the wind made it a bit more of a challenging game, it’s nothing that these tough men and women cannot handle.

We thank them and appreciate all the hard work that they do for the community, and look forward to hosting them all again next year!
